There are many weight loss programs that people follow it may be group meetings that you join regularly it may be online again as a group or independently with a weight loss coach or perhaps you have decided to purchase a weight loss program online.
Each of these programs or I prefer to use the language, weight loss plan, have their benefits and shortcomings the important thing is to find what works for you.
o has a focus around what you want.
o It needs to be enjoyable - yes you can certainly enjoy losing weight.
o You are provided with accurate information with up-to-date ideas, backed by research.
o Your weight loss plan is unique to you because it is made by discussing your needs and includes your past history with weight loss.

At my private studio in Riccarton you will have individual attention because I only see one client at a time as I believe privacy is essential that's there is much “emotional baggage” about our weight, how we feel about it and how it can affect the way we live our lives.
It is not often mentioned that weight loss varies considerably or should I say the methods and the success rate for losing weight depends on a number of factors: -
o your age
o your lifestyle
o your previous history around weight loss
o the messages you tell yourself.
o whether you are a woman or a man (more about that later)
and losing weight in my opinion does not depend on these factors: -
o your willpower
o following a strict diet
o limiting calorie intake
o your previous success or not with weight loss
o limited ability to move or exercise
o poor time management – busy life doesn’t exclude weight loss.
Weight loss for women over 50
Weight loss can be more challenging for women due to possibly a combination of factors including their body composition, metabolism and hormonal fluctuations. As women have a lower rest metabolic rate and more body fat which will typically slow down their weight loss process. Due to all these factors, you will be up against everything your body goes through. Hormonal fluctuations can trigger emotional eating, and also menopause.
Don’t despair weight loss can be achieved with the right combination of exercise and healthy eating. That is how we can work together to make weight loss more enjoyable.

Weight loss for men over 50
Weight loss can also be challenging for men over the age of 50, due to their metabolism slowing down, reduced muscle mass due to ageing, hormonal changes and increased work stress levels. Unfortunately, as men age they also become less active, this is something that can be very detrimental to their health and wellbeing. These can be simple fixes, so long as you committed to improving your life.
Exercise for women and men over 50
Surprising enough there is no “One exercise fits all”, because women and men are made differently. Through my experience women will benefit better with strength training, flexibility and cardio to help burn fat,
Men have more lean muscle mass which means they will benefit from aerobic exercise, flexibility, strength training and balance.
Summary
Without a plan your weight loss journey will have no targets to achieve, so you could be going around in circles with no accountability. Don’t make weight loss more of a challenge than it should be, have achievable goals.
