Persistent Pain Doesn't Have To Control Your Life
Understand Your Pain; Move With Confidence; Get Back to Living
-
Have you been dealing with back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, knee pain or other persistent musculoskeletal pain?
-
Perhaps you've tried exercises, massage, physiotherapy, medication or simply resting and hoping it would settle.
-
Maybe the pain keeps coming back.
-
Or perhaps you're finding yourself avoiding movements and activities because you're worried about making things worse.
There may be another way forward.
As a personal trainer I combine Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) with Holistic Movement Training
Your Pain Is Real — But Pain Does'nt Always Mean Damage
This is one of the most important things to understand about persistent pain.
Pain is produced by the brain as part of the body's protection system.
Sometimes, after an injury or period of stress, that protective system can become over-sensitive.
The alarm can continue to sound even when there is little or no ongoing tissue damage.
That doesn't mean your pain is imaginary.
It means your nervous system may have learned to become protective.
Pain Reprocessing Therapy helps you understand this process and explore your sensations and movement in a different way.
Why Add Holistic Movement?
Understanding your pain is only part of the journey.
Your body also needs opportunities to experience safe, confident movement.
That's where holistic movement comes in.
Movement isn't simply about strengthening a painful body part.
We consider the whole person.
That can include:
🧠 Mind
Understanding pain and changing the way you interpret sensations.
🌬️ Nervous System
Learning ways to reduce threat and increase a sense of safety.
🦴 Body
Developing mobility, strength, coordination and physical capacity.
🚶 Movement
Gradually rediscovering movements and activities you may have become fearful of.
❤️ Life
Connecting your physical progress to the things that actually matter to you.
THE 4-HOUR WORKSHOP
A MORNING TO UNDERSTAND, EXPLORE AND MOVE
This isn't simply a presentation about pain.
It's an opportunity to learn, reflect and experience.
PART 1 — Understanding Pain
We'll explore:
-
What pain actually is
-
How the brain and nervous system create pain
-
The role of the protective system
-
Why pain can persist
-
Why pain doesn't always equal damage
PART 2 — Reprocessing Pain
We'll introduce key principles from Pain Reprocessing Therapy.
You'll explore:
-
How you interpret pain
-
Fear and threat around sensations
-
Safety versus danger
-
How to approach sensations differently
-
Developing curiosity rather than fear
PART 3 — Holistic Movement
We'll take those ideas into movement.
Through appropriate movement exploration, we'll work with:
-
Body awareness
-
Breathing
-
Mobility
-
Gentle movement
-
Strength and confidence
-
Everyday movement
The goal isn't to push through pain.
The goal is to experience movement from a different perspective.
PART 4 — Taking It Into Everyday Life
We'll bring everything together.
You'll consider:
What have I learned about my pain?
What movements have I been avoiding?
What would I like to get back to doing?
How can I approach movement differently from here?
You'll leave with a clearer understanding of pain and practical ideas you can continue exploring.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is PRT suitable for everyone?
No. Persistent pain can have many causes and contributing factors. An appropriate assessment is important to determine whether this approach is suitable for you.
Does PRT mean my pain is "all in my head"?
No.
Pain is a real experience produced by the nervous system. PRT recognises that the brain plays an important role in producing pain without suggesting that the pain is imaginary or "made up."
Will PRT cure my pain?
No treatment can guarantee that.
The aim is to help you understand persistent pain and change your relationship with pain, sensations and movement. Individual responses vary.
Do I need to exercise?
Movement is an important part of the approach, but this isn't about forcing yourself through painful exercise.
Movement is introduced progressively and appropriately for you.
What if I've had pain for years?
Persistent pain is exactly where understanding the nervous system can be particularly valuable. The length of time you've experienced pain doesn't necessarily determine your ability to change.
Do I need a diagnosis?
An understanding of your medical history and current situation is important. PRT is not intended to replace appropriate medical assessment when one is required.
How much does it cost?
Individual Saturday sessions are $185.
When are workshops available?
Saturday appointments are available between 10am and 2pm, subject to availability.
